Stroke Deprives Normal Life of the Victims
Stroke occurs when the blood supply to the brain is severed or greatly reduced, so the brain cells are deprived of oxygen and die. Cell death will remove the brain's ability to control memory and muscle. If the oxygen supply breaks for a long time, then the damaged part of the brain gets bigger. So the possibility of death will be higher.

Every year nearly 800 thousand people have new or recurrent strokes. At least within four minutes, this disease takes the life of one person. In Indonesia , the prevalence of stroke based on diagnosis of health workers (nakes) is highest in North Sulawesi as much as 10.8 ‰ (per thousand) and followed by Yogyakarta as much as 10.3 ‰.

The prevalence of stroke increases with age, the highest being in the age above 75 years ie 43.1 ‰ to 67.0 ‰. Meanwhile, the risks are also increasing in the society with low education, from 16.5 ‰ to 32.8 ‰. Then, in urban communities 8,2 ‰ to 12,7 ‰, and society not working 11,4 ‰ to 18 ‰.

Damage to brain cells can occur within minutes, needing quick treatment to minimize brain damage and potential complications, even though the symptoms subside. People around the patient should be able to perform four steps stroke detection through "FAST".

First, Face, which is asking the patient to smile. Then, Arms, asks the man to raise his arms. Third, Speech, ie repeating simple sentences. Finally, Time, calling the health facility as soon as possible to find the four steps can not be done normally.

Various factors can trigger the occurrence of stoke, one risk factor is an unhealthy lifestyle. Among them are being overweight or obese, rarely exercising, drinking alcoholic beverages, and using narcotics. There are also other risk factors, namely families with a history of stroke, age has been above 55 years.

Because one of the trigger factors is an unhealthy lifestyle, it is important for us to apply a healthy lifestyle if we want to prevent a stroke. Things that can be done is to control high blood pressure (hypertension), exercising, managing stress, maintaining weight, lowering the amount of cholesterol and saturated fats in the diet. Then, stop smoking, limit the consumption of sugar, and get used to the consumption of fruits and vegetables.

Stoke survivors are vulnerable to depression

Escaped from strokes often make the survivor more severe. More than two-thirds of stroke survivors should receive physical disabilities such as paralysis or loss of speech. It can also be paralyzed in the extremity bone such as the hands and feet, blurred vision, or endless headaches.

They also have to face another challenge: depression. The study of 118 stroke patients in a stroke unit at San Carlos University Hospital in Madrid, Spain showed high rates of depression. Researchers observed the survival of survivors after one year of stroke. There are 90 people escaped death, 41 women and 49 men with average age, 68 years.

Of the 90 survivors, 79 people are ischemic stroke patients, namely stroke because blood vessel branches in the brain have a blockage. Whereas 11 is a hemorrhagic stroke, caused by blood vessel branches in the brain rupture and bleeding. Of the total figure, 38 patients admitted depressed with his life.

The variables associated with depression are the status of a housewife, female gender, inability to work due to disability, and decreased social activity. Therefore, if your nearest person has a stroke, help them with moral support you can afford. Our concerns can pump their life spirits.
